17-year-old Jai Anderson dies in hit-and-run accident

On Saturday night, a tragic hit-and-run incident occurred in the Logan suburb of Waterford West, south of Brisbane.

17-year-old Jai Anderson was riding his dirt bike with a pillion passenger when a Toyota Hilux allegedly struck them.

Jai died at the scene, while his friend, 19, underwent emergency surgery for serious leg injuries.

The ute driver allegedly fled the scene without assistance and has since been charged with manslaughter. Tobias Alexander Fine, 21, will apply for bail on Wednesday.

Jai’s friends returned to the street where the teen’s life ended to pay tribute.

Burnouts and wheelies were performed as a mark of respect to Jai, and a makeshift memorial was set up at the scene. Jai’s family and friends described him as loyal and a good kid.’

Jai’s shattered family paid tribute, describing him as the nicest, kindest person. His older brother Beau said Jai was the most loyal and genuine person you could ask for.

Jai’s family and friends will miss him dearly.

Jai was lucky to be alive after suffering critical injuries during a shooting six months before this incident.

It’s understood that the alleged driver was looking for a stolen bike at the time of the incident.

The alleged driver, Fine, has been charged with manslaughter, grievous bodily harm, and failing to remain at the scene.

He remains behind bars, and his matter was mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

Fine’s lawyer told the court he will apply for bail at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Inquiries into the alleged hit-and-run are ongoing. Queensland Police urge witnesses or anyone with a dashcam or CCTV to come forward.
