42-year-old man killed in Baringa, Sunshine Coast; boy accused with murder

A 14-year-old boy has been accused of killing a 42-year-old man who was a mother’s friend.

Just before midnight on Wednesday, emergency personnel were summoned to an address on Toyne Street in Baringa, Queensland, where they discovered the 42-year-old with stab wounds.

The man was injured at the site and later passed away.

The 16-year-old boy was arrested when a crime scene was discovered, and he was later charged with murder.

On Thursday, he is scheduled to appear before the Maroochydore Children’s Court.

Acting Inspector Philip Hurst from the Sunshine Coast Crime Group said on Thursday that the man had been stabbed during a “physical confrontation” that occurred shortly before midnight on Wednesday at a rental home.

Although the boy was not his stepson, Sergeant Hurst claimed the man was a friend of the teen’s mother.

We’re investigating the precise nature of that link, he said.

Police verified that the boy’s mother was present at home during the event.

Neighbours were reportedly astonished to learn that the event occurred on a peaceful family street; one resident told Sunshine Coast Daily she overheard a man and a woman “yelling and shouting.”

It was “quite crazy,” according to Chris Tindall, a resident of Toyne Street, that the stabbing took place there.

A other neighbour said the residents “kept to themselves” and had only lived in the rental for a short period of time—less than six months.

The neighbour observed, “There have been quite a few renters coming and leaving from that property recently.”

Although they have not yet spoken to everyone involved, Queensland Police assured the public that the community was not yet under danger.
