7 details you might have missed in the latest episode of ‘House of the Dragon’

Jacaerys is the firstborn son of Rhaenyra.

Rhaenys states that it has been six years since she last saw Lord Corlys. If he fled immediately after Laenor’s feigned death, our timeframe would be approximately 133 A.C., which is 21 years after the events in the pilot episode (including Aemma’s death and the first time Alicent spoke to Viserys alone).

In the “after the episode” section on HBO, showrunner Ryan Condal explained that this most recent time jump was intended to place all of Rhaenyra, Alicent, and Daemon’s offspring in the age range of 17 to 21 years old, or the beginning of maturity in Westeros.

This letter stated: “I am writing to inform you that Uncle Vaemond is currently sailing to King’s Landing. Regarding succession, rights, and the sanctity of blood, he intends to appeal to his Grace the King. He desires to inherit the Driftwood Throne since it is his right and he is the only untainted candidate.”

Baela, one of Daemon’s daughters with Laena before to her death, was forewarning her father and stepmother Rhaenyra of an impending danger to their family.

Rhaenyra is greeted to King’s Landing by the same nobleman who first congratulated her on the birth of Joffrey.

Lord Caswell was last seen in “House of the Dragon” episode six.

The knight of the Kingsguard who informed Alicent of Aegon’s assault on a servant girl is one of a pair of twins who have been protecting the royal family.

Ser Erryk appeared in episode eight of season one of “House of the Dragon.”

Martin introduces the twin knights Erryk and Arryk Cargyll in “Fire and Blood” during the tournament seen in the pilot episode of “House of the Dragon.” Ser Criston Cole and Lord Commander Harrold Westerling were the most prominent knights of Viserys’ kingsguard that we had seen before to this episode.

Now we have a clear image of Arryk, who was one of the few individuals to discover that Prince Aegon II had sexually abused a servant girl.

The maester serving Rhaenyra is presumably named after Vince Gerardis, the agent of George R. R. Martin and executive producer of “House of the Dragon.”

In this episode, Jacerys is instructed by Maester Gerardys, the Dragonstone servant of Rhaenyra. Although the spelling has been altered to conform to Westerosi style, this name is a subtle homage to Vince Gerardis.

Martin has done this previously with names such as Grover and Elmo Tully, which are references to “Sesame Street” characters.

When Alicent expresses “unease” over siding with Vaemond, the camera angle reveals the Queen via the gaps in the chair once occupied by Lord Corlys.

Alicent Hightower is portrayed by Olivia Cooke in “House of the Dragon.”

In the pilot episode, Lord Corlys’ usual seat at the Small Council was immediately across from the King’s.

Alicent is now speaking on behalf of King Viserys from his old chair, while Otto advises her to deny Corlys’ and Viserys’ requests regarding the succession of Driftmark due to the passage of so much time and the formation of new alliances and political positions.

Alicent’s actions through the vacant seat served as a symbolic reminder of Corlys’ loyalty to his family’s names rather than their trueborn blood.

The spy who reported to Mysaria has been employed by Alicent in the Red Keep for over a decade.

Alexis Raben, who plays Talya and is also a producer on the program, is dating co-showrunner and director Miguel Sapochnik.

Talya, the maid with red hair, has been in prior episodes. Notably, she entered the room in episode six while Alicent and Larys were discussing Rhaenyra’s children being Ser Harwin Strong’s scumbag offspring. In retrospect, Alicent’s dismissal of her suggests that Talya has likely been meticulously cataloging information about the Queen and her guests for years and years.

The enigma around what Mysaria may be doing with this knowledge has not yet been fully revealed.
