31-year-old man faces armed robbery charge

A 31-year-old man has been charged with a series of alleged property offences, including the armed robbery of a vehicle at Valdora on the Sunshine Coast on March 12.

At around 3:15 pm, the police received information leading them to a Hughes Place residence concerning a BMW that was stolen from a Jones Hill address on March 7.

Upon arriving, police created a cordon around the surrounding streets, and as the BMW left the residence, it was observed to be driven dangerously before it failed to pull over when signaled to do so by the police.

A tire deflation device was successfully used to stop the vehicle, but it continued being driven before being found abandoned on Valdora Drive.

A 21-year-old Wooloowin woman was located and arrested without incident.

Later, at about 6:20 pm, emergency services received a report of a man allegedly armed with a knife attending residences in the Valdora area, entering a Golden Valley Place property and demanding keys to a vehicle from its occupants.

The occupants complied, and the man left in a Toyota Hilux. Thankfully, nobody was physically harmed in the incident.

Subsequent investigations led the police to locate the vehicle in Southport on the Gold Coast at around 9:20 am the next day.

They took a 31-year-old man into custody, charging him with twelve offences, including two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, one count of armed robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and enter dwelling with intent.

The man’s bail was refused, and he is expected to appear before the Southport Magistrates Court on March 14.

In the same vein, the 21-year-old Wooloowin woman was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possessing dangerous drugs, and possessing drug utensils.

She is also expected to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on the same date.
