26-year-old dies after tangled hair in conveyor belt

On a terrible industrial mishap, a luggage handler at an airport lost her scalp after getting her hair stuck in a conveyor belt.

On August 30, as Jermani Thompson, 26, was unloading a jet that had just arrived at the New Orleans Airport, her hair became caught in the transporter.

The apron, where the aircraft is parked, loaded, unloaded, refuelled, boarded, and serviced, was where she had been working.

She was taken to the hospital immediately after the event, at approximately 10 p.m., according to officials, but she died soon after.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office recognised her corpse, and an airport spokeswoman verified the mishap.

Apparently, her hair got trapped in the belt loader, according to a spokeswoman for GAT Airline Ground Support, where she worked.

They declared: “We are devastated and doing all in our power to help her family and friends.

During this very trying time, ‘Please express your best wishes to everyone at our New Orleans station.’

Following the incident, Frontier Airlines cancelled one flight on Wednesday morning, but all other planes ran as planned.

Frontier Airlines issued the following statement in response to the terrible loss of a team member of our ground handling business partner at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans: “We send our heartfelt sympathies.”

During this trying time, “Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones.”

The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport’s Director of Aviation, Kevin Dolliole, continued, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Jermani Thompson, a team member of GAT Airline Ground Support.

The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport offers its deepest sympathies to her family, friends, as well as to our business partners at GAT and Fontier Airlines.

“Jermani was a member of our Airport family, and we will continue to support one another in any way we can at this difficult time,” the statement reads.
