On July 13, 2020, 14-year-old Cerys Reeve died after using crystal MDMA at a sleepover.

Immediately after ingesting the medications, Cerys’s companion described her behavior as “very odd.”

The student was brought to the hospital, but ultimately died from “MDMA poisoning.”

James McCairn was convicted guilty of negligent homicide and Ecstasy distribution.

A Snapchat drug dealer who sold a schoolgirl with crystal MDMA and then caused her death was sentenced to seven years in prison on Wednesday.

James McCairn, age 18, sold drugs to Cerys Reeve, age 14, after advertising his illicit trade on an instant messaging application.

The young dancer unfortunately died on July 13, 2020, after consuming the chemical during a stay at a friend’s house in Greenock, Inverclyde.

McCairn, a first-time offender, was found guilty of murder after a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

Prosecutors stated that he’recklessly and illegally’ gave Cerys the lethal class A narcotic at his residence in Greenock.

On July 13, 2020, Cerys Reeve (pictured) passed away after consuming crystal MDMA at a stay at a friend’s house in Greenock, Inverclyde.

Additionally, McCairn was found guilty of distributing Ecstasy to other young people in the city between November 2019 and July 2020.

At sentencing, Judge John McCormick stated, ‘The accusation is significant in and of itself since you gave class A drugs to school-aged children.

The court is committed to doing all it can to dissuade individuals intent on supplying drugs to minors.

“You carelessly gave Cerys Reeve with narcotics, and as a result of her consuming them, she passed away when she was 14 and you were 16.”

I can only understand the anguish felt by her family, and there is no way to adequately express the enormity of what occurred.

Due to the gravity of the situation, even jurors were driven to tears when rendering their judgement.

Due to the severity of the offense and its consequences for Cerys Reeve, a seven-year sentence is deemed appropriate.

The court heard that McCairn advertised the sale of tablets on the morning of July 13, 2020.

At one point, he had posted a message that read, “Mandy (slang for MDMA) for sale.” Excellent deals. Obtain SnapChat.

At 2:52am, he was in communication with Cerys.

Prior to coming to McCairn’s to purchase MDMA, the student had been at a friend’s residence.

Cerys returned and said that she had paid £10 for the medications that she would pay for later that week.

The adolescent then added the powder to a cup of juice before ingesting it.

Her buddy then returned to the room after making a sandwich and described Cerys’ behavior as “very odd.”

Initially, she was unable to control her arms and would kick stuff off a window sill.

The friend told Graeme Jessop, “She asked me who I was and where she was.”

She was repeating herself and engaging in conversations.

She often mentioned Thursday and one of our mutual friends.

The witness described Cerys as moaning, sweating, and falling off the bed, which awoke the girl’s mother.

Cerys then began to burn and experienced a seizure.

Immediately after dialing 999, the adolescent was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital.

Cerys was reported as being “stiff everywhere” and was placed on a ventilator.

The skilled dancer regrettably never recovered, and at 8:08 a.m., he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death was listed as “MDMA poisoning.”

An hour after Cerys’s death, McCairn continued to offer narcotics for sale, but abruptly stopped after word of her death spread.

Other children, including his then 14-year-old girlfriend, came forward to claim that McCairn had given them MDMA in the year 2020.

Mr. Jessop stated in his closing statement to the jury, “McCairn just did not care about Cerys’s age or vulnerability.”

At the time, he just worried about selling his medications for profit, regardless of the conditions.

McCairn did not testify throughout the proceeding.

Gary Allan QC, the defense attorney, stated at the sentencing, “It is important for me to emphasize that in talks I have had with Mr. McCairn, he has completely understood the utter tragedy of Cerys Reeve’s death as a result of drug use.”
