There are concerns for a pregnant mother who was viciously assaulted by a teenager as she strolled with her two young children in a pram.
Monday at around 12:40 p.m., a youngster on a scooter approached the 37-year-old mother as she was walking along a Perth alleyway in Smallman Place, Ashfield.
CCTV video reveals that the teenager dragged the mom, who was five months pregnant, to the ground by her hair before dragging her away from her children.
The woman urgently fought to hold onto her stroller, but it collapsed over as she was shoved down the path, leaving her infant twins shrieking in distress and flailing their legs in the air.
Since she landed on her stomach during the incident, police have voiced concern for the expecting mother’s health and advised her to visit a doctor immediately.
The footage released by WA Police sparked a wave of outrage on social media with many shocked at the violence and others concerned for the welfare of the mother and children.
‘I hope they are ok… thank goodness the mother strapped the children in the pram properly… they would’ve been so scared,’ one person said.
‘That poor mother and her toddlers must be traumatised, I hope they’re ok including the unborn baby. It’s absolutely shocking,’ another said.
‘Police are saying the mother has a few cuts and bruises but they are concerned for her unborn baby as she landed on her stomach,’ added a third.
A 15-year-old girl has been detained on suspicion that she is the girl in the video who attempted to take the woman’s purse.
A video recording of her detention shows her cursing at cops as other members of her family scream in the background.
The girl was charged with one count of robbery and is scheduled to appear on September 13 in Geraldton Magistrates Court.
Investigators published CCTV video of the incident in an effort to put together what transpired and requested that anybody with pertinent information contact police.
A youngster was seen on video riding a scooter down the alleyway behind another little girl before the incident.
Police stated that a second girl was detained as part of the preliminary inquiry, but she was not prosecuted in connection with the assault.
