At least two men, ages 23 and 47, were injured in the upper body during the shooting in the Palestinian district of Silwan in east Jerusalem.

They were completely conscious and in moderate to critical condition at the hospital, according to the paramedics.

Yesterday, another attacker killed seven people outside a synagogue in the city’s bloodiest incident since 2008.

At the scene of a shooting near the Old City in Jerusalem, Israeli police officers transport a guy on a stretcher, who is believed to be the perpetrator, to a police van.

Two persons were reportedly shot and wounded by an attacker in the predominately Arab neighborhood of Silwan in Jerusalem, where Israeli security troops were gathered.

At the scene of a shooting, Israeli police officers and rescue personnel were present.

The attack site was cordoned off as emergency vehicles and security personnel stormed the area.

The events of Saturday increased the likelihood of further escalation in one of the bloodiest months in Israel and the occupied West Bank in recent years.

A Palestinian gunman shot and murdered at least seven people in an ultra-Orthodox Jewish settlement in east Jerusalem on Friday.

According to authorities, the gunman came at 8:15 p.m. and started fire, striking multiple persons before being killed by police.

Multiple casualties were shown on television lying in the road outside the synagogue while rescue personnel attended to them.

On January 27, 2023, Israeli emergency service professionals and security forces stand next to a covered body at the reported attack site in a settlement neighborhood of Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem.

Close to the scene of a gunshot attack in Neve Yaacov, Israeli forces are at work.

The attack, which police labeled as a “terrorist incident,” heightened fears of an increase in bloodshed following months of skirmishes in the West Bank, which culminated on Thursday with an Israeli operation in Jenin that killed at least nine Palestinians.

A police spokesperson reported seven fatalities and more injuries. At the scene, the gunman was shot and killed.

The emergency response service Magen David Adom reported a total of ten gunshot casualties, including a 70-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir – the leader of one of Netanyahu’s new government’s nationalist extremist parties – visited the attack scene and were met with a mixture of cheers and jeers.

The events present Israel’s new far-right government with a crucial test. Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s minister of national security, has portrayed himself as a law and order enforcer and made headlines by pledging to take even tougher measures against the Palestinians.

Following the attack near the synagogue, Israeli authorities began a security crackdown early Saturday morning.Victims of a shooting attack are covered on the ground near a synagogue in Jerusalem, Friday, Jan. 27, 2023.

In the gunman’s neighborhood of At-Tur in east Jerusalem, security forces arrested 42 family members, neighbors, and others connected to him for interrogation. According to the remarks, Police Chief Kobi Shabtai bolstered security troops and ordered officers to work 12-hour shifts, asking the public to phone a hotline if they observe anything odd.

The earlier strike on Friday, which occurred while locals were enjoying the Jewish sabbath, occurred a day after an Israeli military incursion in the West Bank murdered nine Palestinians. The incident on Friday sparked celebrations in both the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip, where people shot weapons into the air, honked horns, and distributed candy.

In addition to a rocket assault from Gaza and retaliatory Israeli airstrikes, Sunday’s visit to the region by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was marred by the outbreak of hostilities.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, stated that he had conducted a security assessment and decided on “immediate actions.” He stated that he would convene his Security Cabinet on Saturday evening, following the conclusion of the Sabbath, to deliberate future action.
