Zoo officials confirm that alligator rescued from New York park swallowed a four-inch bath plug

An alligator rescued from a park in New York was found to be in an emaciated condition due to a four-inch bath plug it had swallowed, according to zoo officials. Staff at Bronx Zoo dubbed the creature Godzilla after it was discovered floating in a lake at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park.

The alligator was taken to the zoo for treatment, where it was found to weigh just 15lbs – less than half of its expected weight for its age. It is believed that the animal had been illegally kept as a pet and then abandoned in the park.

Despite being given nutrients, fluids, medication and antibiotics through a tube, the alligator is still too weak to eat on its own.
