Yellowstone to End with Fifth Season, but New Sequel Announced

…By Lola Smith for TDPel Media.

Yellowstone, the popular modern Western drama, will end with the second part of its fifth season airing later this year.

The series, created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, features Kevin Costner as John Dutton III, who is determined to protect his family’s cattle ranch.

The show follows the conflicts that arise between the Dutton ranch and its neighbours: an Indian reservation, Yellowstone National Park, and an expanding town.

The show’s cast includes Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, and Wes Bentley, among others.

Paramount Network has also ordered a new, untitled Yellowstone sequel from Sheridan, which will be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.

The new series will premiere in December, following prequels about the Dutton family such as 1923 and 1883.

Costner, the lead on the show since its premiere in 2018, has won both a Critics’ Choice Super Award and a Golden Globe Award for his performance in Yellowstone.

The show has been a hit for Paramount Network, and according to Chris McCarthy, president and chief executive of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, “Yellowstone has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits.”

On a personal note, it was confirmed on Wednesday that Costner and his wife of nearly 19 years, Christine Baumgartner, are divorcing.

They have three children together.

Analysis:

Yellowstone has been a highly successful show for Paramount Network, and the announcement of a sequel indicates the network’s confidence in the series and its creators.

The show’s popularity is in part due to its talented cast, including Kevin Costner, who has been a standout performer on the show.

The success of Yellowstone has also led to the development of a larger universe of shows, which is a testament to the series’ staying power and ability to captivate audiences.

The news of Costner’s divorce is likely to be a personal blow for the actor, but it is unlikely to have an impact on the show’s production or the upcoming sequel.

Nevertheless, the timing of the announcement may lead to increased media scrutiny and speculation about the cause of the divorce.

Overall, the announcement of Yellowstone’s ending and the upcoming sequel is bittersweet news for fans of the show.

While it is disappointing that the series is coming to a close, the fact that a sequel has already been ordered is a promising sign that there is more to come in the world of Yellowstone.
