WWE wrestler Rey Mysterio has denied the dating rumours between him and Friends star Jennifer Aniston.
The rumours emerged after Mysterio allegedly said he was a “big fan” of Aniston, who in turn was also a “big fan” of his wrestling.
In an interview with National Enquirer from 1997, Mysterio was alleged to have said that Aniston had been to four of his matches and that they had become good friends, even exchanging phone numbers.
Mysterio claimed to have broken the tradition of never removing his mask in public by showing it to Aniston backstage.
However, Mysterio has since rubbished these claims, admitting that he and Aniston had only dated for about a week.
Mysterio made the admission on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast.
In his autobiography, Behind the Mask, Mysterio wrote that he showed the story to his wife, adding that he was lucky that Photoshopped pictures of him and Aniston did not appear on television.
Aniston herself denied the claims of their relationship, saying that she had “never met a wrestler in her life.”
The rumours have been circulating since 1997, with Mysterio’s alleged comments about Aniston’s appreciation of his wrestling career fueling the gossip.
However, with Mysterio’s recent clarification, it seems that the rumours can finally be laid to rest.
Despite being false, the story may have helped to further cement the cultural icon status of both Mysterio and Aniston, who continue to be celebrated for their accomplishments in their respective fields.
