Chris Domigan shot his nine-year-old son Barnaby with the metre-long earthworm he discovered in a creek outside the family house.

His mother, Jo, remarked, “He was astonished and shocked that a worm could be so large, and he was quite excited.”

“Barnaby was playing with his siblings Frankie, Pearl, Abraham, and Remi in our backyard.

‘He was searching the water in search of anything intriguing, and when he discovered the enormous worm, he used a stick to draw it out.The family has since learned that there are several species of worm in New Zealand capable of growing over 30cm in length. “We did not measure it, but he believes it was as long as both of his arms, therefore we estimate that it was approximately one metre long.

He summoned my spouse to take the shot immediately.

Chris Domigan shot his nine-year-old son Barnaby with the metre-long earthworm he discovered in a creek outside the family house.

Barnaby, who resides near Christchurch, New Zealand, wanted to retain his odd find, but his parents were not enthusiastic.

40-year-old Mrs. Domigan stated, “Therefore, he placed it back at the water’s edge where he discovered it.”

The next day, when we realized how intrigued everyone was, we went out out to find it, but it was vanished, presumably having drifted away.

The family has now found that a number of worm species in New Zealand are capable of reaching lengths exceeding 30 centimeters.

The longest, Spenceriella gigantea, can reach a length of 1.3 meters.

John Marris, curator of the entomology research collection at the University of Lincoln in New Zealand, stated that these insects are often found in undisturbed environments such as forests.

However, they were uncommon in residential gardens, he told the Wellington-based website Stuff.

He continued, “There are several quite enormous natural earthworms known; a metre is not unreasonable.”

Barnaby’s finding soon became a craze that landed him on radio and television across New Zealand and even internationally.

Jo stated, “He thinks it’s amazing.”

‘He has thoroughly loved all the radio and television interviews and is ecstatic that the entire world has become so interested.

“We are thrilled that a child experiencing nature has become a global phenomenon! And he is quite glad that he was the one to discover this incredible worm.
