Kay Ford, a resident of Virginia, recently adopted Patches, a 6-year-old domestic short-haired cat, from the Richmond Animal Care and Control shelter.

Patches was surrendered by his previous owner and was stunned the shelter staff with his enormous size, weighing in at 40 pounds, which is nearly three times the standard weight for a domestic short-haired cat.

Patches’ New Home

Ford introduced Patches to his new siblings, Bella, a 13-year-old Yorkie, and Wellesley, a 2-year-old rescue cat, and he is adjusting well to his new home.

According to Ford, Patches is a sweet and loving cat who loves to cuddle.

Weight Loss Journey

Ford hopes to embark on a weight loss journey with Patches, as she recognizes the health risks associated with obesity in cats.

Commentary

Obesity in cats is a common issue and can lead to a variety of health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and joint pain.

Adopting a cat who is already overweight can be a challenge, but with the right diet and exercise plan, it is possible for them to achieve a healthy weight.

It is encouraging to see that Ford recognizes the importance of addressing Patches’ weight and is taking steps to help him achieve a healthier lifestyle.

By adopting Patches, she is not only providing him with a loving home but also a chance to live a longer and healthier life.
