Whoopi Goldberg says She “Didn’t Want to Be” Married Three Times

Whoopi Goldberg believes that after three failed attempts at marriage, she is officially over the subject. On today’s episode of The View, the co-host opened up about her love life as she listened to her fellow panelists lament the challenges of marriage, which she does not have to deal with as a blissfully single person.

As the Hot Topics table unanimously agreed that marriage can be difficult, Goldberg scratched her head and asked, “How long have I been sitting here with you guys telling you this?”

She said, “It’s not for everybody.” “I did it several times. The reason I did it, however, is because our culture dictates that you should be married. Thus did I grow up. You are expected to be married. However, nobody stated, “Except if it’s not for you.” So I tried it a few times to see if perhaps there was something I was doing incorrectly, and what I was doing incorrectly was not confessing that I didn’t want to get married.

She said, “I have no desire to share. I will not discuss how I feel about what you’ve done. Do not enter my home. I believe it to be really vital.”

In response to Sunny Hostin’s observation that Goldberg is “such a generous person” despite her opinions on cohabiting, Goldberg stated, “I’m really generous. However, this is my decision, and I do not want anyone to question my generosity. I don’t want to discuss that with you.”

Goldberg is an outspoken advocate of the single life, and her 2016 comment regarding marriage, which she shared with The New York Times Magazine, is rather famous: “I don’t want anyone in my house.” And after today’s performance, it appears she has not changed her mind at all. Well, perhaps with the exception of some “hit-and-run” dating here and there.

ABC airs The View weekdays at 11pm/10c.
