The Sheridanverse is expanding with the release of the new Yellowstone prequel, 1923, on Paramount+.
The Western series explores the origins of the Dutton family, focusing on Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren). The series will examine the early twentieth century, when pandemics, record drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression plagued the mountain west and the Dutton family, who resided there.
The majority of the action takes place in Montana. In his review for Decider, Joel Keller noted that there are numerous “side trips to the Native school and to Kenya.” This is reflected in their international filmmaking experience, which spanned various nations.

Where Was the Film 1923 Filmed?
Montana began production for 1923, according to local news sources. NBC Montana stated in June that the Civic Center in Butte, Montana was rented out “for several months” and filming took place in the historic Uptown, creating more than 160 jobs and possibly as many as 500 employment.
However, production continued around the world. Taylor Sheridan, creator of 1923, 1883, and Yellowstone, and David Glasser, executive producer, discussed their filming experiences with Deadline. Sheridan added, “I would argue that 1883 was the most costly first season of a television show ever produced,” before comparing the series to Game of Thrones.
The two continued their discussion about the four nations where they had filmed, which included South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, and Malta.
