Paramount+ has opted to continue portraying the genesis story of the Dutton family.
The streaming service has extended its Yellowstone prequel series 1923 for a second season after the drama’s record-breaking first season, in which the debut was the most-watched cable series premiere of 2022.
Taylor Sheridan’s series chronicles the forebears of the Dutton family, lead by Harrison Ford’s Jacob, Helen Mirren’s Cara, and Brandon Sklenar’s Spencer Dutton. According to Paramount+, the latest episode of the family’s origin narrative is set in the early 20th century, when pandemics, unprecedented drought, and the end of Prohibition threaten the mountain west and the Duttons who live there.
Sheridan’s second Yellowstone origin series, 1923, begins decades after the one-season 1883 series. Isabel May narrated the series and continues to narrate 1923 as Elsa.
Ford, who is presently acting in Apple’s Shrinking, is an avid supporter of the initiative. “I met with Taylor, who gave me a very brief outline of what he had in mind,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I went on faith and my experience with Yellowstone, 1883.” “He has created a work of immense ambition, scale, and cinematic ambition. Taylor views each of these episodes as an hour-long film. And that is the product we are receiving.”
Previously, he had also expressed his desire to film a second season: “I have been extremely satisfied, encouraged, and challenged by the work at hand.” I hope we get another season to learn more about this character and see him in new situations. But I’m enjoying myself immensely. I am thoroughly loving it.”
The show’s cast includes Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Jerome Flynn, and Julia Schlaepfer.
On February 5, Season 1 of 1923 will return to Paramount+. The midseason finale of Yellowstone aired on January 1 and the series will return this summer.
