Ukrainian teenager returns to apartment her family fled at the start of Putin’s invasion to find beds unmade, food unfinished and phone plugged in for a year

After returning to her home in Kharkiv, Ukraine, Anna Malygon found everything the same as when she left to study abroad 18 months ago, including an unfinished pastry and a phone still on charge for a year.

Anna had no idea that she wouldn’t be able to return when she first left home. She was able to go back this month and found that the building was still standing.

Anna documented her experience on TikTok, revealing the moldy dishes left in the sink and the unwashed laundry on the floor, among other things.

Anna’s trip also revealed the destruction of the many places she once loved, like a shopping center, a café, her old school, and a beauty salon.

Her TikTok video has since gone viral, raising awareness of the impact of war on people’s lives. The comments section of her video is filled with expressions of shock and empathy for the Ukrainian people who have suffered from the disastrous impact of the war.
