UAE Team Emirates announces Tadej Pogacar will miss the Vuelta a Espana.

Tadej Pogacar, who placed second in the Tour de France on Sunday, will return to compete in Spain the following weekend but will not participate in the Vuelta a Espana, according to an announcement made on Tuesday by his UAE Team Emirates.

The Dane Jonas Vingegaard prevented the Slovenian a third straight Tour victory on Sunday.

In preparation for the world championships in September, Tadej Pogacar

The 23-year-old will begin competing as early as the San Sebastian Classic in the Basque Country next weekend before taking a break and preparing for a run of one-day events, according to his team.

As he prepares for the world championships in Australia at the end of September, Pogacar’s plans to compete in the Vuelta have been scrapped.

Then, at one of cycling’s “monuments,” Il Lombardia, he is scheduled to defend his championship.
