Police arrested suspects in two separate, unrelated attempted kidnapping incidents in Downtown and the View Ridge neighborhood on Tuesday.
In the first incident, at 11:14 AM, police received a report that a man had tried to force a 10-year-old girl, who he did not know, into a vehicle in the 6500 block of 45th Avenue Northeast.
A witness intervened and the suspect fled, leaving the child behind. Officers were able to obtain information about the suspect and his vehicle and later located his car in Fremont and arrested him. Police continue to investigate and will book the man into the King County Jail.
In a second unrelated incident, a 45-year-old man attempted to grab a child on a downtown street around 12:49 p.m. Police received 911 calls from multiple witnesses in the 200 block of Madison Street, reporting a man grabbing a child. Officers contacted the child and his grandmother, who said they were walking southbound on 2nd Avenue when a man walked up behind them and grabbed the 7-year-old boy, lifting him off his feet. As the man tried to leave with the boy, the grandmother grabbed on to the child and pulled him away, while a passerby helped fight the man off.
The suspect fled the scene but officers located him several blocks away and took him into custody. Officers booked the man, who appeared to be in a state of crisis, into the King County Jail for attempted kidnapping.
