Two killed and one injured in bus shooting in Limpopo

Friday, the South African Police Services (SAPS) in Bela-Bela, Limpopo, opened two investigations of murder, attempted murder, and armed robbery, indicating an increase in festive season violence.

Three males are suspected of opening fire on a bus traveling from Pretoria to Zimbabwe early on Thursday morning, killing two people and injuring another.

In a statement, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said, “Three suspects reportedly boarded a bus going for Harare at Bosman in Pretoria, posing as passengers.”

According to reports, the Copperbelt Bus Company bus left Pretoria shortly after 01:00 on Thursday. On the N1 highway, when the vehicle passed Mantsole Weigh Bridge, one of the suspects allegedly drew a handgun and shot through the windshield, compelling the driver to pull over.

The other suspects then opened fire on three women, killing two instantaneously and gravely wounding the third.

Mojapelo added that the other passengers were subsequently robbed of their possessions, including their cellphones, cash, and passports.

The suspects were then picked up by a vehicle that had apparently been tailing the bus before to the incident, and they fled the scene.

Since then, Mojapelo has ordered that the three suspects be tracked down and brought to justice.
