Something is being loaded.

Queen Elizabeth II’s last act before her death on Thursday was to designate Liz Truss as the new prime minister of the United Kingdom.

CNN reports that the late British monarch broke with custom on Tuesday by hosting audiences at Balmoral Castle rather than Buckingham Palace.

A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace informed CNN that the Queen, who died at the age of 96, will not make the usual trip to London. Instead, she welcomed the outgoing leader Boris Johnson, 58, and his partner Carrie Johnson, 34, at the Scotland residence before choosing his successor, Truss, 47.

Two days prior to her death, the Queen’s penultimate royal engagement was a meeting with Truss in Balmoral.

According to a royal source, the 1,000-mile round-trip to Balmoral was intended to give stability in the politicians’ schedules by preventing cancellations due to the Queen’s mobility concerns.

The BBC reported that following the meeting with Truss, Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen will not hold an online privy council meeting on Wednesday evening. The palace added that her doctors urged her to rest after a “full day” on Tuesday and that she will reschedule.

Thursday afternoon, Buckingham Palace announced that the queen’s physicians were concerned about her health and advised that she remain under medical observation. Presently, the cause of the Queen’s death is unknown, but according to a statement provided to Insider, she “passed peacefully in Balmoral.”

Jane Barlow, who shot the final public photographs of the Queen for the Press Association, told Sky News that the monarch “definitely did look more frail” than earlier in the summer, but remained in good spirits. “She gave me many smiles,” Barlow continued.

Truss paid respect to the late Queen in a Thursday evening television address from 10 Downing Street, two days after assuming the position of prime minister. The address was also posted on the website of the British government.

Truss said: “We are all horrified by the news from Balmoral that we have just received. The death of Her Majesty The Queen is a devastating blow to the nation and the entire world. Queen Elizabeth II was the cornerstone of modern Britain.”

She stated that “our country has grown and flourished during her reign” and that “Britain is a wonderful nation because of her.”

Throughout her 70-year reign, the Queen has been known for her grace and dignity, according to the head of the Conservative party, who added that she is liked and admired by the residents of the United Kingdom and the rest of the globe.

She announced that the crown had passed to the new ruler, King Charles, and implored the audience to support him.

She closed her address by recognizing Charles as the new king: “We offer him our allegiance and devotion, just as his mother did for so many years. And with the closing of the second Elizabethan age, we usher in a new period in the beautiful history of our great country – just as Her Majesty would have desired – by pronouncing God save the King.”
