Tshwane has a water scarcity, so people go into the streets

On Thursday, the people of Tshwane’s Refilwe township, who have been without water for months, protested in the streets.

The locals demanded that the city supply them with running water, claiming that the scarcity of water is interfering with their everyday lives.

The elderly also expressed dissatisfaction about the difficulty of accessing the given water tanks and the lack of water needed to take their essential daily medications.

Residents of Winterveld, which is north of Tshwane, are also having trouble getting enough water.

“The water problem is incredibly aggravating right now, and there isn’t even an update as to what is occurring,” a local named Omphile Comfort said.

Residents have been reminded to use water wisely by Darryl Johnson, the City of Tshwane MMC for utilities services.

Level 1 water restrictions are in place for Pretoria, and Johnson stated: “This is the one that the metro was at before, and the level that we have been at in this metro for many years.

We must utilize water wisely because the problem of water scarcity is real and unlikely to be resolved overnight.

During level 1, the following restrictions are valid:

– Avoid watering or irrigating gardens between the hours of 6am and 6pm.

– Avoid using hosepipes or high-pressure washers to wash cars.

He predicted that this will continue for some time.

Johnson continued by saying that the metro will identify ways to increase capacity in order to stop future occurrences of these failures.
