City of Tshwane urges people to save water usage

The City of Tshwane urges households to use water sparingly in order to mitigate the effects of the present water crisis.

Rand Water has suggested that they aim to regulate the flow of water to the city of Tshwane in order to reduce water use.

Reduced flow into reservoirs is causing water scarcity.

The City of Tshwane reported that Rand Water had reported a drop in its overall reservoir storage capacity as a result of an increase in water use in Tshwane and neighboring municipalities.

“The recent heat wave and lack of precipitation have exacerbated the high water usage,” the city noted.

Residents of Tshwane must reduce their water consumption.
The City of Tshwane implores its inhabitants to reduce their water consumption in order to prevent more reservoirs from drying up and resulting in additional water shortages.

Residents in Tshwane can utilize the following water-saving tips:

Do not water or irrigate gardens with a hose or irrigation system during peak hours in the morning and afternoon.

Avoid using a hose to clean patios and driveways.

Do not use a hose to wash autos.

Avoid filling or topping off pools and other water features at this time.

“Load shedding does not help the situation either, as pumping hours are reduced during load shedding due to a lack of power supply to water treatment plants,” they stated.

This compelled Rand Water to immediately place water restrictions on a number of high-consumption water meters in the municipality.

The current capacity of the Rand Water system has decreased from 60% to roughly 30%, which is extremely dangerous and urgent. If nothing changes, Rand Water’s bulk water supply infrastructure will continue to decline and eventually collapse.

The following locations in the city of Tshwane are currently facing water shortages:

Waterkloof Ridge Sections of the Monument Park Grootfontein Shanguve Block L, M, K, LKK, and H
