Residents of Tshwane’s Refilwe township, who have been without water for months, vented their anger in the streets on Thursday.
The inhabitants demanded that the city provide them with running water, claiming that the lack of water hinders their day-to-day operations.
The elderly also claimed that they were unable to take their regular medications due to a lack of water and that the offered water tanks were difficult to reach.
In Winterveld, located north of Tshwane, there are also water supply difficulties.
Omphile Comfort, a local resident, stated, “The current water problem is really frustrating, and there has been no update on the situation.”
Darryl Johnson, the City of Tshwane’s MMC for utility services, has advised citizens to save water.
Johnson stated, in light of Pretoria’s level 1 water limitations, “This is the level at which the metropolitan area was previously, and the level at which we have been for many years in this metropolitan area.
In light of the fact that water scarcity problems are unlikely to be resolved rapidly, we must conserve water.
The subsequent restrictions apply during level 1:
– Do not water or irrigate gardens with a hosepipe or sprinkler between 6am and 6pm.
– Do not use hoses or high-pressure systems to wash automobiles.
He stated that this would continue for the foreseeable future.
Johnson stated that the metro will investigate ways to increase capacity to prevent a future recurrence of these interruptions.
