Tshwane Giants sign new players

In an odd start to their Premier Soccer League championship defence, Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Cape Town City 2–0 in their first match before suffering an unexpected loss to TS Galaxy, who defeated Masandawana for the first time in history.

Masandawana made amends over the weekend when they defeated Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs 4–0 in front of a packed Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Despite this impressive display, the Champions are still in fourth place in the DStv Premiership log standing.

The Tshwane Giants have added new players to their already illustrious roster in an effort to restock it.

Bongani Zungu, who left Chloorkop in 2016 to play for his country, is the most recent to be presented.

Zungu’s return was explained by Downs Co-Coach Rulani Mokwena, who added: “[It’s] a difficult process, it took a long time.

Despite having alternative options, Bongani opted to come to us, therefore I want to praise him for his perseverance and faith.

He was really patient and even more profitable than we had thrown, but sometimes it helps when there are very excellent relationships between the coaches and the athlete because their willingness to come and work with the coaches and to be part of the setup helps.

We are absolutely thrilled that the club has chosen to help in bringing ‘Bongz’ here, and I want to thank Bongani and his family for the support they offered him in trying to make sure that he selected us instead of the other alternatives that they had.

We are excited for him to join the team and compete for a spot, which will be really challenging.

The battle is made much tougher by the fact that we have very talented players in Bongani Zungu’s position in addition to his being a very, very good player.
