Troy McCowan pleads guilty to domestic violence-related common assault

Troy McCowan, a 25-year-old plumber from Emu Plains in Sydney, Australia, lost his chance at becoming a reality TV star after he pleaded guilty to domestic violence-related common assault.

The incident occurred on April 15, 2022, while he was at the Penrith Panthers game at BlueBet Stadium. He ran into his ex-girlfriend, Ashley Hall, while in the bar line, and was overcome with jealousy upon seeing her.

McCowan and Hall had been in an 18-month relationship, and he was jealous of her seeing other men after their breakup.

He confronted Hall and told her to stop trying to get with his mates. When she attempted to leave at half time to avoid confrontation, she ran into him again.

McCowan approached her and tried to take back a Louis Vuitton bag he had gifted her for Christmas, violently ripping the chain strap in the process.

The altercation continued at the Penrith Leagues Club, where McCowan clashed with one of Hall’s friends and was removed from the venue.

After being removed, McCowan sent text messages to his ex-girlfriend, blaming her for their relationship struggles and warning her he was outside her house.

He was arrested two months later, and in court, he admitted to grabbing and ripping the Louis Vuitton bag.

McCowan was sentenced to a 12-month conditional release order without conviction, and he was also ordered to stay 200m away from Hall for two years.

The Love Island hopeful had already been chosen to participate in the show in Spain, but his charges in June 2022 meant he lost that opportunity.

During sentencing, Magistrate Geoffrey Hiatt condemned McCowan’s actions and accused him of treating Hall like property. He added that alcohol was not an excuse for his behavior or acts of violence.
