Tragic incident in Glencoe as Kyle Sambrook and dog fall nearly 100ft to their deaths

A tragic incident occurred in Glencoe when a hillwalker, Kyle Sambrook, and his dog Bane fell nearly 100ft to their deaths.

Mr Sambrook, a landscape gardener from West Yorkshire, was found in a gully at 2,625ft on Stob Coire nam Beith after a three-day search.

According to rescuers, he was carrying his dog with one hand, and this may have been a major cause of the accident.

The deputy team leader of Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team, Brian Bathurst, and his team discovered the bodies on Saturday.

They believe Mr Sambrook may have lost his way in the appalling weather with strong winds and was trying to get off the hill when he fell.

He also had a heavy rucksack, and the steep terrain may have contributed to the accident. It took rescuers six hours to carry the bodies off the mountain.

Mr Sambrook had driven to the area with his dog to camp and climb Buachaille Etive Mòr, which stands at 3,351 feet.

The search for him involved more than 40 rescuers, and it resumed on Saturday with the help of rescue teams from Tweed Valley, Oban, and Lochaber.

His family was informed of the discovery and met with the rescuers to thank them.

Mr Bathurst praised the team’s effort, saying they could not have done more, but hoped for a better outcome.

The incident is a reminder of the dangers of hillwalking and the importance of taking necessary precautions to ensure one’s safety.

In a separate incident, Harvey Christian from Peterborough has been missing on Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain, since January 27.

His car was found parked by a lay-by on the mountain, and there are fears that his body may be buried under the snow.
