This is the horrifying moment a Florida man allegedly attempted to behead a man he knew by stabbing him 40 times with a pair of scissors.
Edmund Clarke, age 36, entered The Trading Post in Burnt Business Marina, a family-owned restaurant and store in Punta Gorda, with the son of the elderly man for whom he provided care.
Clarke and the victim had entered the store and placed meal orders together.
The pair was observed selecting beverages and placing them on the counter.
Suddenly, Clarke seizes a pair of scissors from a nearby cup and lunges at the victim while wielding them.
The entire gory assault was captured on surveillance footage, with at least two additional witnesses in the store.
The man sustained almost 40 stab wounds to the head, neck, and torso.
Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies report that Clarke was observed hacking at the man in an attempt to decapitate him.
Clarke, wearing blue on the left, is seen ordering food at a convenience store in Lee Country.
Suddenly, Clarke is observed snatching a pair of scissors from a nearby cup and lunging for the victim with them.
Clarke took the scissors from a cup on the store counter and placed them in her pocket.
When the scissors did not appear to be sufficiently sharp, he allegedly grabbed other knives from the kitchen part of the store.
Several minutes passed before police arrived to apprehend Clarke; at that time, the brutal assault continued.
The victim was transported to the hospital with severe head, neck, and torso wounds.
Clarke had cared for the victim’s father for approximately a decade.
Prior to the event, the victim had picked up Clarke from the hospital, where he had been treated for gastrointestinal problems.
After leaving the hospital, Clarke informed the victim that he was hungry. The two then stopped at The Trading Post and were getting food when the attack began without provocation.
The victim somehow survived the attack and is presently in the hospital.
Several minutes passed before police arrived to apprehend Clarke; meanwhile, the brutal assault continued.
The store was cordoned off as the authorities investigated the unprovoked assault.
Witnesses reported hearing Clarke suddenly hallucinating while ranting about being pursued by an unseen foe.
The brutal and vicious assault then began.
At the scene, Clarke was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
The Lee County sheriff, Carmine Marceno, stated, “This heinous crime will not be permitted.”
“I am proud of the prompt response of our deputies, which helped save the victim’s life, and the tenacity of my detectives in apprehending Clarke,”
The sufferer was airlifted to the hospital, where emergency surgery was performed.
