Police in Bedfordshire have confirmed that they have found two bodies in the search for two canoeists who capsized in the Great Ouse river near Kempston.

The emergency services were alerted to the incident on Sunday when witnesses saw two overturned canoes and a woman in distress.

The police, along with the fire and rescue teams and the ambulance service, conducted a search of the river, and tragically, two deceased individuals were discovered.

The Bedfordshire Coroner has been notified, and formal identification has not been made yet, while the police continue their efforts to establish the identities.

The police have urged the public to avoid the Weir embankment/Water Lane area during further inquiries, and there will be a police presence in the region as investigations continue.

The police expressed their condolences, stating: “Our thoughts are with those affected by these tragic circumstances.”
