Eight people dead after two fishing boats capsized near Blacks Beach in California

Late on Saturday night, two fishing boats capsized near Blacks Beach in California, resulting in at least eight deaths.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department received a call at 11:30 p.m. and responded to the scene, but the rescue operation transitioned to a recovery effort.

The boats involved were panga boats, a common style of fishing boat in the Caribbean and Central America. Two helicopters were deployed for the search and rescue operation, but foggy conditions prevented progress.

The SDFD plans to resume recovery efforts on Sunday morning, with the hope of improved conditions and additional crew members assisting. Further updates on this developing story are expected.
