Toyah Cordingley’s killer has been extradited to Cairns from India

Rajwinder Singh, the man suspected of killing Toyah Cordingley in 2018, has been extradited to Cairns from India and is expected to be charged with murder.

Toyah’s father, Troy Cordingley, has spoken for the first time about the case, expressing his relief that Singh has been returned to Australia.

Singh fled to India shortly after Toyah’s body was found, and had been living there until his arrest in 2022.

The Queensland government offered a record $1 million reward for information leading to his capture, and he was extradited to Australia after a lengthy legal process.

Singh is expected to appear in court in Cairns once charged.

Detective acting Superintendent Kevin Goan said that Toyah’s family had been informed of Singh’s return to Australia and were overwhelmed but pleased that the judicial process would commence on Australian soil.

Detective Inspector Sonia Smith praised the efforts of police in pursuing justice for Toyah and her family, describing the work as meticulous and determined.

The Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, also expressed her gratitude that the police investigation had led to Singh’s extradition and a chance for justice.

Singh, a local nurse and an Australian citizen boarded a flight to India hours after Toyah’s body was found.

He left behind his wife and three children at their Cassowary Coast home and police believe he hid out in Punjab state after fleeing Australia.

Singh arrived in Melbourne from Delhi on a Qantas flight on Wednesday before being taken to court, where he was remanded in custody.

He is expected to be charged with murder once he reaches Cairns.

Toyah’s body was discovered partially buried on Wangetti Beach in Cairns in October 2018.

The case has been ongoing for over four years, and Mr Cordingley says there is still a long way to go before justice is served.

However, he is relieved that Singh has been returned to Australia and is grateful to the Queensland police for keeping him informed and updated on the case’s progress.
