Top Republican: Trump has ‘different rules’

Despite stating that he wouldn’t have removed confidential materials, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee backed former President Donald Trump because he follows “a different set of norms.”

“I have spent the majority of my professional life in the classified world. Representative Michael McCaul of Texas told Martha Raddatz of ABC This Week on Sunday morning, “I personally wouldn’t do it.”

But, he said, “I’m not the president.” He is subject to a distinct set of regulations.

Presidents have the authority to declassify information “at a moment’s notice,” according to McCaul.

In direct violation of the Presidential Records Act, which mandates that all presidential records be kept by the National Archives, Donald Trump removed hundreds of items from the White House when he left office last year.

A new inventory list that was unsealed by a judge on Friday revealed that the FBI seized empty folders with classified markings, clothing, books, and official photographs during their raid on Mar-a-Lago.

47 empty folders labelled “classified” that were discovered in Trump’s office as well as more than 1,500 periodicals, newspapers, press releases, and other printed materials from all around his house are among the things described in the records that were made public on Friday.

The list reveals that despite having secret marks on them, numerous files discovered during the raid had no information. Additionally, news and magazine articles were gathered.
