Green Sprouts is recalling thousands baby stainless steel bottles and sippy cups sold nationally due to a lead poisoning risk posed by the products’ detachable bases.

According to a recall notice released by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Friday, the Asheville, North Carolina, company has received seven instances of the bottles’ bases falling off, exposing a solder dot containing lead that is hazardous if consumed by young children. There were no injuries recorded.

The recall follows a survey by U.S. PIRG that revealed a large number of recalled products still on the market, “including children’s products recalled for lead — a deadly material outlawed since the 1970s,” Kids in Danger’s assistant director stated in a release earlier this month.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is no safe amount of lead in children, and even low levels in the blood can impair a child’s ability to learn, pay attention, and succeed in school.

According to the CPSC report, about 10,500 cups and bottles were sold nationwide at Buy Buy Baby and Whole Foods stores and online at amazon.com, buybuybaby.com, and bedbathandbeyond.com between January 2020 and September 2022 for between $14 and $19.

According to a supplementary press release from Green Sprouts, the goods were also sold online at babyhaven.com, drugstore.com, and target.com.

Consumers were instructed to remove the recalled items from the reach of minors and dispose of them, while calling Green Sprouts for a refund or shop credit. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the company can be reached at 800-876-1574 or via email at ContactUs@GreenSprouts.com. It is also accessible online via this link.

The recall covers the following three China-made goods marked with one of the following tracking numbers: 29218V06985, 35719V06985, and 33020V06985:

“As we approach the redesign of these products, whose ability to securely keep beverages cool has made them a popular choice among parents, we will ensure that lead is not utilized as a soldering material,” Green Sprouts wrote in a separate press release.

Customers were instructed to continue using the plant-plastic and silicone cover and spout of the recalled product with other Green Sprouts cups and bottles, while discarding the stainless-steel components by throwing them away.
