After returning to Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and winning the Hollywoodbets Super League, Tiisetso ‘Bastos’ Makhubela is motivated to do everything in her ability to return Banyana Ba Style to the pinnacle of African football in 2023.
Bastos, who made a sensational comeback to Chloorkop earlier this year (March 2022) after spending three years at TUT Ladies, was thrilled with the team’s rapid progress.
“Returning to Sundowns Ladies was so important to me since this club has a long history of success. Because I was young and lacked confidence, I was limited in my ability to contribute during my first assignment here. The relocation to TUT Ladies gave that, but I knew I would return to finish what I had begun. When the relocation was announced, I felt like I was returning home. Upon my return to Sundowns Ladies, I observed significant development and expansion in terms of the technical team and infrastructure. “The club is developing in the right direction, and I’m happy to be back where I belong,” stated Tiisetso.
Makhubela’s return to the Sundowns Ladies allowed her to compliment defenders like as Zanele Nhlapho, Bambanani Mbane, Regina Mogolola, and Karabo Makhurubetshi. Banyana Ba Style conceded just 13 goals across 30 matches in the Hollywoodbets Super League.
Tiisetso described her best experiences from the previous season as follows: “I enjoyed representing Sundowns Ladies at the COSAFA Qualifiers and the CAF Women’s Champions League, both of which are highly coveted tournaments to compete in. Although I have previously represented my country on the continental stage, doing so for a club squad is a dream come true. In addition, scoring against UJ Ladies during the Hollywoodbets Super League was a momentous occasion for me.
The two-time COSAFA Cup champion indicated a desire to win additional continental titles with Sundowns Ladies.
“As a veteran professional, I feel extremely lucky to have won a few titles with Banyana Banyana. Having experienced continental success with the national team, my goal is to lead Sundowns Ladies back to the top of the CAF Women’s Champions League. Given the rising quality of women’s football in Africa, we are aware that recovering the continent’s best women’s event would not be simple. Bastos said, “However, we are aware of the stakes, and I shall be willing to give my all on the field in order to accomplish our continental ambitions.”
In addition to playing in the center of the defense, Makhubela was essential in fullback roles due to her tactical game savvy and superb placement.
Since her return, Bastos has established her dominance throughout the team.
