Three women are declared missing after a night out

On Friday night, a group of five people went missing after a night out in Newport. The group consisted of three women, Sophie Russon, Eve Smith, and Darcy Ross, and two men, Shane Loughlin and Rafel Jeanne-Actie.

The families and friends of the missing individuals were growing increasingly concerned, as they had not heard from them since the early hours of Saturday, March 4.

After several appeals for help, the Gwent Police announced that the missing individual’s car was involved in a crash in the St Mellons area of the city and was found on Monday just after midnight. The VW Tiguan was last seen on its way to Trecco Bay in Porthcawl.

According to the police, the car had come off the A48, and three of the missing individuals were found dead, while two others were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The deceased have been identified as Sophie Russon, Eve Smith, and Shane Loughlin.

The families of those involved are being supported by specialist officers, and the investigation is ongoing. The case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct in line with normal procedures.

The incident has caused disruptions to traffic, as A48 Eastern Avenue has been closed in both directions due to a police incident at A48(M) St Mellons. The roundabout is also closed, making it difficult for traffic to get to and from the A48 Eastern Avenue dual-carriageway. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police.
