There was nothing I could do to save the third ‘Wonder Woman’ film, says Patty Jenkins

Patty Jenkins denies that she “walked away” from Wonder Woman 3, delivering a lengthy message on Twitter in response to rumors that her third Wonder Woman picture will not be made. Jenkins, whose proposal for the picture was apparently rejected by DC’s James Gunn and Peter Safran, expressed to her followers that “there was nothing I could do” to make her project a reality.

“Sigh… I am not one to discuss my private profession, but I will not tolerate continued inaccuracies. Here are the facts,” she began her statement, before revealing, “When the backlash over WW3 not occurring began, the enticing clickbait false claim that I killed it or abandoned it began to circulate. This just is not the case.”

Jenkins remarked, in response to accusations that she had refused to change her treatment for the film, “I never walked away. I was willing to consider any request made of me. According to my understanding, there was nothing I could do to advance the situation at this time. DC is definitely immersed in necessary reforms, so I understand that these decisions are difficult at the moment.

Gunn appeared to defend Jenkins on Twitter, where he responded to her email by writing, “I can verify that Peter and I have had nothing but friendly and professional contacts with you.”

Jenkins stated that even though her time with Wonder Woman has concluded, she wishes to end the chapter on a positive note.

“I do not want my great adventure with WW to go on a sad note. “It has been a privilege and a joy for me to direct the last two Wonder Woman pictures,” she wrote. “She has an extraordinary personality. Living according to and surrounded by one’s values makes one a better person daily. I wish her and her legacy a prosperous future, regardless of my presence.

In addition to thanking her cast, staff, and fans, the director acknowledged Wonder Woman’s Lynda Carter and Gal Gadot. She wrote, “Thank you to EVERYONE for this incredible adventure. Maintain the Wonder Woman mentality. Every time you confront a challenge, ask yourself: What would Wonder Woman do? I pray her torch of love, truth, and justice continues to illuminate your path, as she did mine.”

Jenkins also addressed her Star Wars picture Rogue Squadron, stating in her statement that she remains devoted to the project but cannot predict its destiny.

Since then, that project has been under active development, and I am still working on it. She shared, “I don’t know if it will happen or not.”
