The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has officially declared that the highly anticipated Zuma Film Festival (ZUFF) will take place in Abuja from December 1 to 10, 2023.

This announcement was made by Brian Etuk, the NFC director of public affairs, in a statement released on Thursday.

Showcasing Nigeria’s Film Industry to the World

Described as a significant gathering of industry leaders, stakeholders, and creative minds, the 10-day Zuma Film Festival aims to showcase the very best of Nigeria’s film and entertainment industry on a global stage.

Etuk emphasized that the event would not only attract participants from across Nigeria but also from other countries.

Collaborative Partnership and Thematic Focus

Etuk further explained that ZUFF 2023 would mark the second year of a 10-year collaborative partnership between the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) in hosting this prestigious annual film festival.

The chosen theme for the festival is “Cultural Convergence,” with a focus on exploring the potential and opportunities inherent in the convergence of diverse cultures through the audio-visual medium.

Diverse Program Highlights

The festival’s program encompasses a wide range of activities, including daily film screenings, film master classes, symposia, film and television markets, content creation and exhibition forums, film project pitching sessions, co-production engagements, an annual film lecture, and special tribute events.

Additionally, there will be a special focus on the Nigeria-South Africa Film Festival, with the first leg taking place during the Durban Film Festival/Film Mart Institute in July 2023.

Managing Director and Chief Executive of NFC, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, expressed his commitment to ensuring the success of ZUFF 2023.

He highlighted the importance of the festival on a global scale and emphasized its role in recognizing and honoring Nigerian filmmakers who have contributed to the growth and development of the industry.

Call for Film Entries

The statement concluded by mentioning that details regarding the submission of film entries for Zuma Film Festival 2023 will be announced in the near future, urging filmmakers to stay tuned for the official call and submission guidelines.
