Our new daily feature on the Orlando Pirates is dubbed Transfer Signing of the Day. Since the year 2000, we reflect on every successful Sea Robbers transfer.

Today’s featured transfer is a player who still sends some Bucs fans to tears. The individual’s name is Mpho Gift Leremi.

The 17-year-old winger from Soweto graduated from the Pirates academy in 2002. It did not take long for Leremi to win over admirers with his exceptional combination of physical strength, quickness, and left-footed shooting power.

Leremi, also known as “Vum Vum,” is a reference to a swift and powerful automobile from the song by the late Kwaito superstar Brown Dash.

The winger remained a fan favorite for the Pirates until his transfer to Mamelodi Sundowns in July 2007.

Additionally, Kaizer Chiefs trialist “Neymar” cautioned about the demands of Naturena.

On the morning of September 4, 2007, South African fans learned the awful news. Leremi was killed in an automobile accident.

His white BMW 3 Series was involved in an accident in Alberton, Gauteng, which claimed the life of 24-year-old Leremi.

“Vum Vum” gained 23 U23 national caps and four Bafana Bafana appearances, but tragically passed only days before Sundowns won the SAA Supa 8 championship.
