A preservation order has been obtained by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to freeze a luxury property owned by Vhuthanda Investment, whose only director is Prof. Alfred Nevhutanda, a former board chair of the National Lotteries Commission.

The SIU claimed in a statement on Monday that the National Lotteries Commission provided funding to allegedly purchase the property for about R27 million (NLC).

“A SIU investigation has shown that the property was paid for with funds that NPOs got through grants from NLC.

Prof. Nevhuthanda served as the NLC board’s chairperson at the time of the transaction.

“Five NPOs submitted grant funding requests to [the] NLC and received a total of more than R100 million in financing.

The NPOs sent funds to a law company for the purchase of the property and the furniture as soon as the funding was received, according to the SIU.

The R100 million grant money, according to the unit, was allegedly intended for community empowerment initiatives such athletic facilities in the North West and Mpumalanga, senior living facilities in the North West and Limpopo, and a rehabilitation center in Soshanguve, Gauteng.
