SARS appreciates preservation order against Gold Leaf Tobacco Corp

The preservation order that was granted against Gold Leaf Tobacco Corporation and two of its directors has been welcomed by the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

The North Gauteng High Court on Thursday approved the order pursuant to section 163 of the Tax Administration Act.

In a statement, SARS said that over the previous year, it had investigated and cracked down on the illegal economy, concentrating on the fuel, gold, and tobacco industries.

“SARS has taken several enforcement measures, including this one.

The revenue collector declared, “SARS is utilising its powers to make disobeying legitimate tax duties difficult and expensive for individuals who are engaged in this illicit pursuit.

The preservation order is acquired to stop the loss of realisable assets, which would make it difficult to collect taxes.

To the detriment of the State and the South African people, non-compliant taxpayers’ actions deprive the government of legal funds.

SARS will continue to carry out its task without fear, favour, or bias in tackling this disease, according to SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter.
