The Proteas will play England in the new SA20 franchise event

During January and February, the Proteas will visit England in a rescheduled three-match one-day international series that will coincide with a new T20 franchise league.

The internationals are scheduled for the 27th and 29th of January in Bloemfontein and the 1st of February in Kimberley, respectively, while the six-team SA20 competition runs from the 10th of January through an unannounced date in February.

To prevent a tug of war over players, the matches against England might be scheduled between the SA20 group and knockout stages.

South Africa is chasing points to earn automatic qualification for the 2023 World Cup in India, so the One-Day Internationals are crucial.

The Proteas were scheduled to play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in Australia in January, but the tour was canceled in order to establish the SA20.

England was supposed to play the ODI series in South Africa two years ago, but it was postponed because to a Covid-19 outbreak in the hosts’ camp.

After England, the Proteas will play the West Indies in all three formats between February 28 and March 28, followed by two ODIs against the Netherlands.
