The opening ODI between South Africa and India was postponed due to rain

The opening day of the one-day international between South Africa and India in Lucknow on Thursday has been postponed due to rain.

The toss has been moved out by 30 minutes to 1.30pm (0800 GMT), but additional rain has reduced the chances of play starting soon, with covers being hauled back onto the pitch.

Shikhar Dhawan leads hosts India in the three-match One-Day International series, while Rohit Sharma’s Twenty20 team has left for Australia for the World Cup, which begins later this month.

South Africa, headed by Temba Bavuma, will try to avenge a 2-1 T20 series loss in the 50-overs game.
