The January 6 committee is in talks with Virginia ‘Ginni’ Thomas’ lawyers, Rep. Liz Cheney says

The wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, conservative activist Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, was urged to be coerced into cooperating with their inquiry into the Capitol incident by January 6 committee Vice Chair Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), on Sunday.

The Wyoming Republican said on CNN’s State of the Union that if negotiations with Thomas’ legal counsel fail, her committee is “completely prepared to contemplate a subpoena.”

The committee is speaking with her attorney, according to Cheney. We are hoping that she will consent to enter voluntarily.

She said the committee might be hesitant to adopt such a drastic measure right now, but it might in the future.

It happens only days after Cheney stated that additional hearings would be scheduled for September after the conclusion of this summer’s set, which ends on Thursday.

Cheney expressed hope that the subpoena wouldn’t reach that point.

We have undoubtedly spoken with many others who are in a position to understand the conversation she was having.

Thomas is reportedly urging Donald Trump’s inner circle to look into his allegations that the 2020 election was rigged, according to texts that the committee has in its hands.

She had defended ‘Kraken’ attorney Sidney Powell, whose opinions were so outlandish that Trump and his fellow attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis severed connections with her.

Thomas also communicated with John Eastman, who is renowned for writing a legal document that claimed Mike Pence, who was vice president at the time, could unilaterally void the election, as reported by the Washington Post.

In addition, the lifelong Republican operator has met privately with Trump alongside her husband, who is now the Supreme Court justice with the longest tenure following Justice Stephen Breyer’s retirement last month.

After the texts were made public, the left began to push for Clarence Thomas to step down from the bench and withdraw from matters involving elections.

When the Supreme Court determined that Trump could not conceal records from the committee on January 6, he was the lone contrarian; this decision has subsequently triggered ethical red flags.

In the 18 months the group has been looking into the Capitol riot, Thomas’ involvement with the panel, as announced by Cheney on Sunday, is a relatively recent development.

Bennie Thompson, the chairman of the committee and a Democrat from Mississippi, told CBS News in May that they had no plans to summon Thomas.

She wasn’t really a focus of the work of the larger committee… At the time, Thompson remarked, “She just so happens to be the wife of a Supreme Court justice.”

If Thomas cooperates with the committee in some way, she might offer valuable information for its upcoming round of hearings, which Cheney announced at the conclusion of the panel’s previous round.

Even as we hold our ninth hearing, there is still much work to be done. On Thursday, Cheney stated, “We have a lot more evidence to share with the American people and more to gather.”

Therefore, before holding additional hearings in September, our committee will spend August seeking new material on a number of fronts.
