The first flight deporting refugees to Rwanda halted at the 11th hour

After a rush of last-minute legal challenges, the first flight deporting refugees to Rwanda was halted at the 11th hour.

The Boeing 767, registration EC-LZO, had been parked for hours on a Ministry of Defence runway in Amesbury, Salisbury, ahead of its scheduled one-way flight to east Africa.

However, only minutes before the scheduled departure time, the administration reported that all migrants had been evacuated as a result of last-minute interventions by the European Court of Human Rights.

As a series of last-minute court hearings took place ahead of the first flight on Tuesday, Boris Johnson argued that attorneys supporting migrants were ‘abetting the work of criminal gangs.’

Despite protests from the Church of England and reportedly from the Prince of Wales, the Prime Minister maintained that the Government would not abandon its policies.
