On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Kristin Chenoweth may have just topped the dating world by recalling the time she was courted by the late, great Prince.
The brief affair began when Chenoweth’s manager sent a message from the “Purple Rain” singer to Chenoweth. Chenoweth first hung up on her manager in disbelief, but eventually accepted to the date after realizing it wasn’t a joke.
She recalled driving up to Prince’s residence, where they were having dinner, and seeing a “huge purple rug” before his chef led her to his library.
“I’m so nervous that I’m sweating bullets,” she recounted. “And now we hear ‘click, click, click, click’” Prince’s shoes, correct? Arrives. He was like, ‘Hello.’ I was like, ‘I’d like to party like it’s 1999 and wear my raspberry beret.’”
While the musician was not pleased by Chenoweth’s joke, she reported that they eventually went downstairs for dinner and had a “great conversation about life, love, and faith.” They eventually made their way to his basement, where he displayed his collection of “200 guitars.”
“He says, ‘Take pick one. She told a stunned Drew Barrymore and Ross Mathews to “play one” “Thus, I captured this long, white-necked bird. I flipped it over and discovered that it was heavily scratched. I wondered, “What happened?” He goes, ‘Elvis’ belt.’”
At one point, Prince invited her to his movie room, where he viewed a performance video of Kristin Chenoweth that he said “inspired” him. He informed her, “I enjoy doing what you do. Please never cease.”
But that was not their only meeting!
After Chenoweth failed to win an Emmy, Prince instructed her to invite everyone who attended the ceremony back to his home. The Broadway legend quipped that she invited individuals she didn’t even know, like Dexter’s Michael C. Hall.
She recalled, “I said, ‘I realize we don’t know each other, but would you like to go to Prince’s house?’”
Naturally, everyone leapt at the chance, and Prince performed a three-hour concert for the entire celebration. Mathews reflected our sentiments when he referred to Chenoweth’s astounding story as “the best story ever.”
