The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Abdullahi Ahmed, hands his credentials to the President of the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Aleksandar Vučić

As the first Somali ambassador to reopen the embassy in this nation following the fall of the central government in 1991, H.E. Mohamed Abdullahi Ahmed presented his credentials to President of the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Aleksandar Vui, on June 22, 2022.

Through collaboration with the Ambassador H.E. Mohamed, President Vui expressed delight with the long-standing and friendly ties between the two nations.

He pointed out that the two nations’ diplomatic ties, which date back to the days of the former Yugoslavia and membership in the Non-Aligned Movement, were formed sixty-two years ago and are respected and nurtured by both.

Strengthening collaboration with the African Union Commission is one of Serbia’s top foreign policy priorities, according to President Vui.

President Vui urged H.E. Ambassador Mohamed to thank Somalia’s leadership for acknowledging Serbia’s viewpoints and for supporting our nation’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Serbia would support the Federal Republic of Somalia’s unity, as well as its territorial integrity and sovereignty, he continued.

One of the top aims of Ambassador Mohamed’s diplomatic mission in Serbia, according to him, is to promote bilateral political, economic, and security cooperation as well as to increase trade and investment between the two nations.

President Vui reminded the Ambassador of the Serbian Foreign Minister’s visit to Somalia on May 22, 2019, and the meeting’s shared willingness to reestablish the cordial ties between the two nations that go back to their close collaboration in the Non-Aligned Movement.

The officials emphasized mutual preparedness for the restoration of the two countries’ historic friendship beginning in 1960 during the minister’s discussions with Somali leadership and separate discussions with the prime minister and foreign minister of Somalia.

Since September 19, 2021, Mohamed Abdullahi has served as the Somali Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires in Belgrade, Serbia.
