The African Energy Week (AEW) 2022, which will be held from October 18–21 in Cape Town, is excited to have Eyas Alhomouz, Chairman of independent oil and gas business PetroNor E&P, to speak about African exploration and production (E&P) in the post–COVID-19 environment. Alhomouz will play a crucial role in all dialogues, taking part in a number of panel discussions and hydrocarbon forums in Cape Town later this year, as PetroNor looks to expand its presence across the African oil and gas market and African countries aim to maximize resources with the objective of making energy poverty history by 2030.

Alhomouz held a variety of positions before taking the helm at PetroNor, including those of international firms Schlumberger Oilfield Services, Cromwell Energy, Prism Seismic, and Jaidah Energy.

These positions included those of international business development manager, COO, financial director, and wireline engineer. Alhomouz epitomizes the ideal participant at this year’s event for all issues concerning oil and gas in Africa, which is a major theme of AEW, given his years of experience in the energy business and current position as a global independent PetroNor representative.

With licenses in key basins across Africa and a resource base totaling 20.2 million barrels of proven reserves, PetroNor is an independent oil and gas explorer and producer that produces on average 3,850 barrels of oil per day (bpd).

The company is particularly active in west Africa, where it is promoting E&P activity in the Republic of Congo, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, and Nigeria.

Significant operational improvements were made in the producing fields in the Congo after the company’s debut into the market in 2017, and gross output rose to 30,000 bpd.

The company is moving through with its ambitions to buy a share in the Aje field in Nigeria, with an eye toward high-potential deposits and maximizing value from the asset.

The company’s portfolio also includes exploration licenses in Senegal, a highly valuable hydrocarbon region where significant oil and gas resources have just just been found, Guinea-Bissau, and The Gambia.

In The Gambia, the company regained the A4 license in 2020; in Bissau, PetroNor entered into a share purchase agreement of SPE Guinea Bissau AB from Svenska Petroleum Exploration AB, granting PetroNor a 78.57 percent interest and operatorship role of the Sinapa (Block 2) and Esperana (Blocks 4A and 5A); and in Senegal, the company reserves its rights to a 90 percent operating working interest in the exploration

“As PetroNor expands its footprint across the African oil and gas sector, acquiring new assets and driving exploration and production, the company will play an increasing role in positioning the continent as a competitive hydrocarbon market.

Africa is committed to maximizing its oil and gas, and companies such as PetroNor will be instrumental in ensuring the maximization of resources,” states NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber (AEC), adding that, “By coming to AEW 2022 in Cape Town, Alhomouz who personally has a strong faith in the potential of African oil and gas,  will help drive the discussion on oil, gas and Africa’s energy future, making a strong case for hydrocarbon development in a post-COVID-19, energy transition context.

Now, more than ever, Africa needs to ramp up exploration and production and PetroNor has demonstrated its commitment to doing just that.”

Exploring and Investing in Africa’s Energy Future while Creating an Enabling Environment is the conference’s overarching subject.

The focus of AEW is the part that oil and gas will play in Africa’s future energy needs.

Africa’s oil and gas resources have attracted substantial interest due to the significance these resources play in addressing global energy security at a time when global supply chains are disrupted, oil prices have surged to record highs, and demand for oil and gas continues to climb.

As the need to end energy poverty grows more urgent, improving exploration represents a crucial step toward kicking off production for African nations.

Meanwhile, for international energy companies, Africa’s rich and largely untapped basins represent a singular window of opportunity.

As international independents like PetroNor continue to increase their presence in Africa, AEW 2022 provides the best venue for negotiating contracts, establishing alliances, and growing African portfolios.

The best opportunity to learn about new trends while advancing oil and gas investment and development in 2022 and beyond is through specialized upstream panel talks, investor forums, and national and international oil firm conferences organized by industry professionals, including Alhomouz.
