Thai police have arrested a drug lord who had undergone plastic surgery to change his appearance and escape from authorities. Sarahat Sawangjaeng, who is also known as Jimin Cheong, allegedly imported MDMA into Thailand from Europe and sold it to customers in Bangkok.
He bought the drugs with Bitcoin on the dark web. Sawangjaeng had dodged authorities since early December 2021 when an arrest warrant was issued, but he was tracked down to a luxury apartment in an upmarket part of Bangkok after an undercover police officer showed interest in working as a drug mule.
Upon his arrest, police were surprised to find that Sawangjaeng had transformed himself into a “handsome Korean man” and none of his original face was left.
Police Major General Thammasutee stated that Sawangjaeng is “one of the main causes of Bangkok’s MDMA epidemic” and that the police would continue to investigate the case to find other suspects who are likely in foreign countries.
