Sunak and his wife attend Tory fundraiser

At a recent Tory fundraiser, a portrait of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made entirely of Swarovski crystals was sold for £25,000, serving as the centrepiece of the auction held at the opulent Savoy hotel in London. Both Sunak and his wife were present at the event but left through a side door.

The fundraiser, known as the Conservative Winter Ball, was attended by other high-profile party members such as Home Secretary Suella Braverman and Transport Secretary Mark Harper.

The artwork was created by London-based artist San B, who has previously designed works for Bruno Mars, the Wu-Tang Clan, and Floyd Mayweather.

The auction, which included other lots such as a shooting party and a trip to watch the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, raised a substantial sum of money for the Conservative Party, which has been facing financial difficulties in recent months.

The party’s operating budget is reported to be around £5 million in the red, with donations dropping by 45% in the third quarter of 2022, according to the Electoral Commission.

Environment Secretary Therese Coffey, who also attended the ball, faced criticism for suggesting that people struggling to afford food should “work harder.”

Coffey has been involved in several other controversies, leading her to be dubbed “Calamity Coffey” by her critics.
