The City of Tshwane has stated that the current Stage 6 load-shedding poses several issues that may result in water disruptions in high-lying regions.
“Our water treatment facilities and pump stations require electricity in order to function. These reservoirs rely on a continual flow to maintain water levels and be prepared for power outages, according to a statement released by the City of Tshwane.
It states that the continuous flow is dependent on the functioning of water pumping stations.
“Due to the frequency of power outages, the continuous flow of water is interrupted. This means that reservoirs under severe pressure, such as high-lying ones, may see a gradual decrease in water level until they are at risk of drying up.
The City has endeavored, whenever possible, to exempt its water treatment facilities and major pump stations from load-shedding in order to protect the water network and maintain water flow.
Nevertheless, it is impossible to exempt every water network system that requires power.
According to the City of Tshwane, if load-shedding continues, water disruptions may occur in certain areas.
This is very likely in regions with a high elevation, such as Laudium and Waterkloof Ridge.
The City of Tshwane IOL reported that Rand Water stated that water storage in its reservoirs had rapidly decreased as a result of the increased demand for water caused by high temperatures.
According to Rand Water, it will be forced to adopt water limits if water use increases.
